22 May 2007 - Spiderman 3 stable at the top of box office, Ninja couldn’t fight Spiderman
'Spiderman 3' began screenings on the 20th and remained as the strong lead in box office, with 3.62 million Yuan. Spiderman not only emerged top in Guangzhou local listing, but also in last week's Hong Kong box office with 1.8 million HKD, beating the second place '200 pounds beauty'. According to Korean cinemas, 'Spiderman 3' box office in the Korea amounts to 360 thousand audiences, reigning the top for three consecutive weeks.
Last week, the box office for 'Spiderman 3' decreased quite a lot. Firstly, it was because the prime time had already satisfied most spider-fans, thus was normal for the decrease. Other than that, the quality of 'Spiderman 3' was doubted as audiences pointed out 16 doubtful points in the movie, causing the new movie to receive quite a big impact. 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' which was first screened last week won approximately 20 million box office, and ended second place. However, it was revealed by the cinemas that Ninja's box office during the weekend was no less than Spiderman 3, but as the animated movie are mostly watched by students, and children watch with half price, thus the box office results was not as universally accepted as 'Spiderman 3'. Another newly screened movie 'Teeth of Love'. Other than that, The Closet thriller starring Francis Ng and Michelle Ye which was unable to be in the listing the week before, came in fourth in box office this week. As there will be no new movies which will be screened this week, it will remain the battle between Spiderman and Ninja - will Spiderman reign its fourth consecutive win, we shall wait and see.
